The Art Department at TMBSS are passionate about engaging all children in creativity and in raising self-esteem. Exploring a wide range of mediums, artists, and cultures within curriculum lessons, themed days and enrichment. Providing opportunities for all students to achieve a qualification in the Arts.

KS3 Curriculum 

At KS3 the focus is on giving students a broad experience, exploring media and techniques. Embedding analysis, evaluation, reading and vocabulary building in preparation for GCSE, and in line with the national curriculum. Our KS3 curriculum is project based, with 6 projects completed a year in 2D and 3D forms. These operate on a three-year rolling programme of projects.

KS4 Curriculum

At KS4 we offer a student-centred GCSE curriculum for year 11. Giving students the opportunity to make informed decisions about their project focus. We offer Photography, Textiles, Fine Art, 3D design, and Graphic Communication as GCSE qualifications. For those year 11 students arriving with us too late for GCSE entry, we use AQA unit Awards to give students the opportunity to achieve an Art Entry level and Level 1 qualifications, experience producing a variety of artwork and exploration of the wider arts. 

Year 10 students will have the opportunity to choose from either GCSE Fine Art or GCSE Photography as a programme. Within these areas of Art and Design teachers will provide initial starting points for project themes and artist references as an introduction to GCSE. Within these projects students will complete corresponding AQA Unit Awards, ensuring that when they return to mainstream school they have achieved qualifications within the arts.

During the Summer term we hold an annual Art Show in the form of a "garden pARTy", in which students showcase their work to our other pupils, their families and friends. Music workshops through 'Live Music Now' has formed part of that event since 2018.

Enrichment, SMSC, Cross-Curricular and Careers

As a department, we are passionate about using the Arts to embed learning from other subject areas through cross-curricular work and thematic days. Such as links with Science for World Space Week and World Oceans Day, English for Remembrance and Humanities for Chinese New Year. Students have the opportunity to voice their interest in a particular arts area and we use this as a stimulus for future enrichment activities. 

We also promote Careers within the Arts. This academic year is focussing on graphic design within marketing. Providing secondary students the opportunity to learn about the design process in response to a client brief from a professional working in the field, before taking part in an off-site trip to see the final product.

Digital Art Exhibition 2025

These are a collection of final pieces for Unit 1: Personal Portfolio and Unit 2: Externally Set Assessment for GCSE Fine Art. The students are from Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Hook a Gate and Oswestry Education centres. They all chose different project titles for their Personal Portfolio, based on their own interests and artistic influences. Using a variety of wet and dry media, collage, and printing processes. The Externally Set Assignment had the title this year of 'Gathering', and all students were required to produce a project around this theme.
