Cooking On A Budget
KS3 and KS4 students look at the cost of food, sources of cheap food and purchase ingredients for a recipe that fit a particular budget.
Pupils at the Oswestry Centre chose a recipe and then went shopping for some of the ingredients, making sure they kept to a pre-planned budget, substituting more expensive items for cheaper versions. They also used food sourced from retailers getting rid of food that is near the end of its shelf life to further reduce the cost of the budget.
They then returned to the Centre and made banana bread. After lots of measuring, weighing, mixing, stirring, mashing and cooking, the results were fantastic!
The reason for this was to work towards gaining an AQA Unit Award in Mathematics.
