Getting Creative with Kennings

Students from HEC developed their creative writing in Literacy this week.

The students in the Sixth Day Provision group explored kennings, a type of poetry originating from Old Norse and Old English traditions. They learned that kennings often follow a pattern of two-word phrases, joined by a hyphen. These poems act like riddles, offering imaginative ways to describe everyday objects. Inspired by what they had learned, the students used their creativity to compose their own kenning about their favourite animals and foods.
