One Big Pigment!

Students at the Ludlow Centre have been learning about cave art and making their own cave paintings.

KS3 and KS4 students looked at some of the oldest paintings ever discovered and considered the meanings behind them. They learned what a pigment is and had a go at making their own pigments. Students used a range of natural materials such as beetroot, autumn leaves, berries, and even curry powder! This activity enhanced students' understanding of organic materials and their properties. Using their original pigments, students produced imaginative cave-style paintings that were clearly inspired by the examples of cave art they studied. The resulting artwork will be displayed as part of One Big Picture project.
