Building a Bunkhouse

To understand the living conditions of migrant workers like ‘Lennie’ and ‘George’ in Steinbeck’s classic novella ‘Of Mice and Men’, students built their own ramshackle structures.

Using glue guns and lollipop sticks, Key Stage 3 students attempted to recreate the ‘long, rectangular’ building which symbolises confinement, camaraderie and conflict. Whilst the students’ lollipop structures lacked refinement, they accurately represented the sparse existence endured by workers like Lennie and George.
